Mumbai: Stellantis has partnered with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TPMV) to produce vehicles in India using the latter’s platforms for supplying to more than 50 countries worldwide.

Under a definitive pact inked between the two automakers, TMPV will provide Stellantis access to its advanced product technology and vehicle architecture, which the latter will build upon through its product development and engineering teams in India for supplying to these markets under its own brand names.

Stellantis’ brands in India include Jeep and Citroen. The first model will be a new Jeep SUV based on Tata Motors’ Argos platform that currently underpins its Sierra SUV. The platform is designed to accommodate diverse vehicle dimensions and powertrain applications, the companies said in a joint statement Monday.

Vehicles developed under the alliance will be produced by Fiat India Automobiles Pvt Ltd (FIAPL), the existing equal joint venture between TMPV and Stellantis, at its facility in Ranjangaon, Pune.

The partnership builds on a February 2026 memorandum of understanding (MoU) which strengthens India’s position as a global automotive development and manufacturing hub, leveraging its engineering strengths and production scale to boost exports and integrate the country further into global automotive value chains, per the statement.

The 2026 MoU was aimed at exploring potential for collaboration across manufacturing, engineering and supply chain in India and overseas. “It turns that intent into a specific product technology and architecture collaboration,” the companies said. “Utilising India’s competitive engineering strengths and manufacturing scale, the collaboration aims to accelerate the export ambitions and further anchor India as a key node in the global production network.”

Shailesh Chandra, managing director and CEO, TMPV said the partnership with Stellantis “has grown steadily over more than two decades, built on mutual trust and complementary strengths.”

“It marks an important next step, extending the relationship between the two into advanced vehicle technology and architecture, reflecting the strength and competitiveness of TMPV’s capabilities in these areas,” he said.

Tianshu Xin, chief operating officer, Stellantis Asia-Pacific Region, said, "Partnerships are central to how Stellantis creates value across Asia-Pacific.”

“By combining Tata Motors' strong capabilities in India with Stellantis' global product development and market reach, this Agreement will help us develop competitive vehicles in India and expand our export potential across international markets,” he said. “It also reinforces India's growing role as a strategic manufacturing and development hub for Stellantis."
