"By next year, we should be touching exports close to ₹10,000 crore only from our suppliers," Shailesh Hazela, chief executive officer and managing director of Stellantis India, told ET.
Indian companies currently supply ₹4,000 crore of components annually to the Dutch group's operations globally, he said. Stellantis has invested nearly ₹11,000 crore in India and sells vehicles under the Citroen and Jeep brands, including models such as the Citroen C3, electric C3, Compass and Meridian. The automaker operates 14 brands globally. The company employs more than 4,000 people in engineering roles in India and runs three manufacturing plants across Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
One of the automaker's major component manufacturing hubs is the Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu, which exports 95% of its production. The facility has an annual capacity of 300,000 engines and 374,000 gearboxes, supplying European and South American markets for brands including Peugeot and Opel.
Some suppliers also export directly since they have warehouse facilities in the US and Europe, Hazela said. Japanese and Korean manufacturers dominate India's automobile market, the third largest in the world with sales of 4.2 million units in 2024.
In 2024, Stellantis shipped 10,000 fully built vehicles from India, alongside 300,000 engines and powertrains. India represents around 2% of the group's global sales volume of 5-6 million units, ET reported in July.
