Passenger vehicle sales decline 3.43 per cent in November; car sales too dip marginally

Domestic car sales were down marginally to 1,79,783 units in November as against 1,81,435 units in November 2017, according to data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Passenger vehicle sales dropped by 3.43% to 266000 units last month as high interest rates, fuel prices and upfront insurance costs kept away buyers.

Liquidity tightening in the market hit adversely sales of medium and heavy trucks (MHCVs), which fell 11% to 25363 units in November. According to data released by industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), sales of light commercial vehicles rose 17.5% to 47449 units pushing up overall volumes in the commercial vehicle segment by 5.71%.

Two-wheeler sales during the month under review grew 7.15% to 1645791 units. While sales of scooters went up by a moderate 3% to 521542 units, those of motorcycles increased 9.36% to 1049659 units.


Overall vehicle sales across categories grew 5% to 2038015 units.
