Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest carmaker, on Wednesday raised prices of its hatchback Swift and select variants of its sport-utility vehicle model, Grand Vitara.

Prices of the Swift have been increased by up to Rs 25,000 while only the Sigma variant of the Grand Vitara got an increase of Rs 19,000, the company said in a statement.

Maruti Suzuki had last raised prices of its entire product range by an average of 0.45% in January.

Last month, Kia India too had announced raising prices by up to 3% across its product range effective April due to higher input costs. Toyota Kirloskar Motor also had announced plans to hike prices by up to 1% on certain variants of select models, attributing the decision to higher input costs and operational expenditure.

Automakers tend to undertake price hikes at the beginning of a calendar year, and sometimes even the fiscal year after assessing demand environment and prevailing commodity prices.
