Maruti MD & CEO Kenichi Ayukawa tests Covid-positive

The company’s manufacturing facilities in Haryana will remain shut till May 9, 2021. Suzuki Motor Gujarat (SMG), too, will shut down for the period.

Maruti Suzuki Managing Director ANS Chief Executive Officer Kenichi Ayukawa has tested positive for Covid-19. He is currently admitted in Medanta Hospital in Gurugram.

“He is asymptomatic. But he lives alone in India so he decided to get admitted”, said a person in the know.

India recorded 3.8 lakh new covid cases in the last 24 hours on Thursday. Maruti Suzuki, the country’s largest car maker, on Wednesday itself said it is advancing the maintenance shutdown across its manufacturing facilities to May 1 from June to make oxygen available for medical needs, as rising Covid-19 infections overwhelm the nation’s health system.
