JSW MG Motor launches MG ADAPT, India's first multi-NEV platform
JSW MG Motor India has unveiled its new MG ADAPT platform for future vehicles. This innovative architecture supports electric, hybrid, and range extender vehicle technologies. The platform aims to enhance driving range and improve overall vehicle ...
The company said the platform will underpin its future new energy vehicle portfolio, with one EV and one PHEV slated to debut on the architecture in FY27.
MG ADAPT has been developed as a flexible platform that integrates multiple electrified powertrains within a common architecture. According to the company, the platform has been designed to improve driving range, enable faster charging, enhance efficiency and performance, strengthen safety and offer better driving refinement while reducing development time for future models.
"At JSW MG Motor India, we believe the future of mobility lies in giving customers the freedom to choose the energy solution that best suits their lifestyle, without compromising on performance, efficiency or driving experience," said Anurag Mehrotra, managing director, JSW MG Motor India.
"MG ADAPT marks a defining milestone in our New Energy Vehicle journey and reflects our commitment to bringing globally advanced technologies that are relevant to the evolving needs of Indian customers."
He said the platform has been designed as a highly flexible technology architecture that brings together multiple energy solutions on a single intelligent platform.
"Designed as a highly flexible technology platform, MG ADAPT brings together multiple energy solutions on a single intelligent architecture, enabling us to deliver vehicles that are more efficient, more adaptable and engineered for the future."
"As we continue to expand our New Energy Vehicle portfolio, this platform will serve as the technological backbone of our future products and reinforce our commitment to accelerating sustainable mobility in India," he added.
The company said the platform integrates a dedicated hybrid engine, a dedicated battery system, India's first 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit and what it claims is the world's first Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission.
An Intelligent Energy Management System coordinates the interaction between the engine, battery and electric motor and automatically switches between four drive modes depending on driving conditions. These include Pure Electric Drive for urban driving, Series Hybrid Drive where the engine generates electricity for the motor, Parallel Hybrid Drive where the engine and motor work together, and Engine Direct Drive for highway cruising.
JSW MG Motor said the dedicated hybrid engine has been developed specifically for hybrid applications to deliver higher thermal efficiency and lower fuel consumption, while the dedicated battery system is designed to provide quicker electric response, improved safety and higher efficiency.
The platform also supports Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) technology, under which the electric motor powers the wheels at all times while a petrol engine functions only as a generator to recharge the battery when required. The company said this configuration is aimed at delivering an electric driving experience while extending vehicle range for longer journeys.
The unveiling comes as automakers increasingly diversify beyond pure battery electric vehicles by introducing hybrid and range-extender technologies to address varying consumer preferences and charging infrastructure constraints in India.
