As per data available with industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), while sales of passenger vehicles rose 27% to 438,854 units in May, those of two-wheelers and three-wheelers went up by 31% and 14.8%, respectively.

Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM said, “Passenger vehicles, three-wheelers and two-wheelers recorded highest ever sales of May in 2026, with high double-digit growth in each segment. Lower base effect of previous May and demand created due to reduced GST rates, with easier financing, is again getting reflected in higher off-take this month.”
In the two-wheeler segment, sales of scooters grew by 27% to 739,667 units in the month under consideration. Those of motorcycles went up by 7% to 1,113,973 units, on a higher base.
