Delhi's decade-old diesel vehicles to be deregistered, starting January 1

Diesel vehicles that are completing 10 years on January 1, 2022 will be deregistered by the Delhi government. However, the city will be issuing no-objection certificates (NOC) for the vehicles that are being de-registered, allowing for them to be re-registered in a different city.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) had issued directions relating to restrictions on registration and plying of diesel vehicles more than 10 years old and petrol vehicles more than 15 years old in the Delhi- NCR (National Capital Region).

This is in line with the NGT's 2016 order that directed "diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years to be deregistered."


The order also said that owners will have the option to convert their 10-year-old diesel or 15-year-old petrol vehicles to electric ones if they want to continue using them.
