In a relief to goods and passenger carrier owners, the centre has extended the deadline for mandatory fitness testing through Automated Testing Stations (ATS) by over a year. An official statement said the relaxation covers heavy, medium and light motor vehicles that ferry goods and passengers. “It has now been decided that mandatory testing through ATS for fitness certificates, of these categories of vehicles, will be applicable from October 1, 2024,” an official statement said adding that this relaxation is in light of present status of readiness of the ATS across the country.

As per the earlier deadline, heavy goods and passenger vehicles needed to obtain fitness certificates from ATS from April 1, 2023 onwards. Medium goods and passenger motor vehicles and light motor vehicles (Transport) needed to get the fitness certificates through ATS from June 1, 2024 onwards.
