NEW DELHI: Mumbai: Bajaj Auto has informed workers at its Aurangabad factory that to claim half the wages that it has promised during lockdown in the district, they must work on the two days before start of curbs and the day production resumes.

The administration in the central Maharashtra district on Monday announced a total lockdown from July 10 to 18, to contain rising Covid-19 cases. At Bajaj Auto’s Waluj plant, as many as 403 workers had tested positive for the infection, with seven succumbing to it, workers’ union leader Thengade Bajirao told ET on Monday evening.

A letter signed by Bajaj Auto’s divisional manager, Anil Mohite, to plant employees stated that if the authorities declared a lockdown and the plant is forced to shut down, employees would get 50% of salary or wages, during lockdown period as per a June 30 circular.

“To be eligible for this 50% of salary or wages, employees need to be present on 8-9 July 2020, as well as the first day post the lockdown,” added Mohite, in the letter dated July 7, while adding that the company had not received any government communication on the lockdown. ET has seen a copy of the letter.
