First trades on Dalal-St: Nifty fails to reclaim 8,400

The S&P BSE Sensex pared gains after rallying as much as 72 points in trade, weighed down by losses in ITC, ICICI Bank, RIL, SBI and Axis Bank. The 50-share Nifty index failed to reclaim its crucial psychological level of 8400, but was still trading with a positive bias, supported by gains in pharma, metal, oil & gas and power stocks.
