Her father, Dravika, learns of Dharmagupta's devotion and receives divine instruction connected with Lord Shiva. With the Gandharvas' help, Dharmagupta defeats his enemies and regains his kingdom.

The story is traditionally understood as emphasizing devotion, discipline, patience and continued Shiva worship even during difficult circumstances. It should not, however, be treated as the only Pradosh Katha, since different traditions preserve separate weekday-specific narratives.
