Why Is Janmashtami Celebrated at Midnight?

According to Hindu tradition, Lord Krishna was born at midnight in a prison in Mathura. His parents, Devaki and Vasudeva, were imprisoned by King Kansa, who feared a prophecy that Devaki's eighth child would become the cause of his downfall.

Krishna was born at midnight when the world was believed to be in darkness and oppression. Vasudeva then carried the newborn Krishna across the Yamuna River and took him to Gokul, where he was raised by Nanda and Yashoda. Janmashtami 2026 Parana Time

Janmashtami 2026 Puja Vidhi

Devotees can perform a simple Krishna Janmashtami puja at home by following these steps:

Clean the place where the Krishna idol will be placed. Decorate the area with flowers, rangoli, lights or a small jhanki.

2. Place the Krishna Idol

Place a Krishna or Laddu Gopal idol on a clean platform. Many devotees decorate the idol with new clothes, jewellery, a crown and a peacock feather.

3. Perform Abhishek
