Producer Dinesh Vijan announces Bhediya 2 and Stree 2 as part of horror-comedy universe; Check release dates here

Producer Dinesh Vijan on Wednesday revealed the release dates for the sequels to the Varun Dhawan-led "Bhediya" and Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao-starring "Stree." It has been announced that the universes of both movies would be expanding.

The Indian horror-comedy film "Stree," which starred Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Pankaj Tripathi, was a box office success and grossed over Rs 100 crores. Similarly, "Roohi," featuring Jahnvi Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Varun Sharma, was released during the COVID-19 pandemic and managed to perform decently, despite the challenging circumstances, while other filmmakers were waiting for more favourable theatrical conditions.

"Bhediya," featuring Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon, performed decently at the box office, especially considering the challenging market conditions where many other movies struggled to find an audience. Maddock Films, the ambitious production house behind the film helmed by Dinesh Vijan, has proactively announced the release dates for their upcoming horror-comedy movies.

Stree 2 and Bhediya 2 release dates

Stree 2, the sequel to "Stree" is scheduled to hit theatres on August 31, 2024, more than six years after the release of the original. The film will begin principal photography later this year, with Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, and Pankaj Tripathi reprising their roles. The character of Stree was also briefly featured in the song "Thumkeshwari" from the movie "Bhediya."

After "Stree 2" hits theatres in 2024, "Bhediya 2" will follow. The two movies will have interlinked stories that lead to something bigger. Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon will continue to portray their characters of Bhaskar and Dr. Ankita, respectively. "Bhediya 2" is scheduled for a 2025 release. It wouldn't be surprising to see the ghost played by Janhvi Kapoor in "Roohi" make an appearance in both "Stree 2" and "Bhediya 2."
