Balkrishna director in 34 companies with turnover of Rs 265 cr:Government

NEW DELHI: Acharya Balkrishna, a close associate of Baba Ramdev, is director in 34 companies having a combined turnover of more than Rs 265 crore, Parliament was informed on Thursday.

However, the yoga guru himself is not on the board of any company, Minister of State for Corporate Affairs RPN Singh said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

"As per the latest information available, no company with Baba Ramdev as director is registered in the country. However, 34 companies are registered in the country with Acharya Balkrishna as Director," Singh said.

Balkrishna, the Minister said, is on the board of 23 companies in Uttarakhand, with a turnover of Rs 94.84 crore, five in Uttar Pradesh (Rs 5 lakh), four in Delhi (Rs 163.06 crore) and one in West Bengal (Rs 8 crore). He is also director in a Maharashtra-based company, which shows no business.

The minister, however, said that "the reasons for increase in turnover of these companies in a short span of period cannot be explained at this stage".
