Take risks & be a better listener: Marico Chairman's advice to budding entrepreneurs

When it comes to business advice, leave it to the expert. And, there's no one better than Harsh Mariwala, the man behind epic brands like Parachute and Saffola that continue to resonate with every Indian.

The Marico founder and Chairman kickstarted the new year with insightful business lessons for his 936.2K Twitter followers and 44,115 followers on LinkedIn.

On Tuesday, the billionaire took to social media to share the importance of taking risks in life and career, and not being afraid of failure. He also said that failure always comes with a silver lining.


"Every failure has a learning. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. But I would say sometimes you win and you always learn," he wrote in his tweet.


In another post, the 73-year-old FMCG boss also said that it is crucial for working professionals to be good listeners. He said that a good listener can never miss an opportunity.

"Opportunity comes knocking on our doors more often than we realise. Many times these get missed. What’s the simplest way to identify potential? Become a better listener," his caption read in the two-part tweet.

Mariwala stressed that being a keen listener and observer will help an individual excel in life. "We hear potential opportunities when we are listening and observing," he added.

The business tycoon also asked his followers for the tips they have developed to make the most of the opportunities coming their way.


Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the businessman-turned-author has been sharing snippets from his journey and business insights for aspiring leaders with the hashtag 'Harsh Realities', which is also the title of his recent book and a wordplay on his name.

Published by Penguin India, Mariwala co-authored the book with management guru Prof Ram Charan. It was released in July 2021.
