Ex-UK PM Boris Johnson promises life-long Lords seats to aides, MP friends and a holiday donor

Labour has urged UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to stop rewarding friends and a Tory donor by enabling four MPs to delay accepting their seats to avoid an embarrassing by-election.

Labour has urged UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to end what they call former UK PM Boris Johnson's "conveyor belt of cronies" after Johnson bestowed peerages on two young aides, four MP friends, and the person who donated his Caribbean holiday.

The former prime minister is said to have suggested life-long Lords' seats for Ross Kempsell, 30, and Charlotte Owen, who is thought to be in her late 20s.

If a watchdog in the House of Lords doesn't intervene, the two will receive £332 every day until they die. Boris Johnson's vacation to Mustique in 2020 was paid for by David Ross, the co-founder of Carphone Warehouse and a Tory backer who is also said to be eligible for a peerage.

Current Members of Parliament Alister Jack, Nigel Adams, Alok Sharma, and Nadine Dorries will all be elevated to the House of Lords, according to a public list. This will protect the seats of Cabinet members Alok Sharma and Alister Jack from the Labour and SNP midway through a Parliament if their majorities are fewer than 5,000.
