The day has finally come! Elon Musk has anointed himself as the chief of social media giant Twitter. After months-long drama, two lawsuits, and leaks of his private texts, the SpaceX chief on Friday sealed the USD 44 billion deal to acquire Twitter.

Even before he officially acquired the social media company, Musk changed his bio to ‘Chief Twit’ on Thursday. The 51-year-old changing his bio on Twitter hours before the acquisition triggered rumours of takeover with the hashtag Chief Twit trending high on Twitter.

On the same day, the Tesla boss made headlines after he walked into the Twitter headquarters in San Francisco holding a sink. The billionaire tweeted a short video of him grinning and walking with the washbasin. He captioned the video as ‘Let that sink in!”

Top Executives Sacked
On Friday, after it was reported that Musk had taken over Twitter and fired top executives including CEO Parag Agarwal, policy chief Vijaya Gadde, chief financial officer Ned Segal, and general counsel Sean Edgett.

Parag Agarwal took over as Twitter CEO in November 2021 after Jack Dorsey announced his resignation. Reportedly, after he assumed the post of the CEO, Agarwal was reportedly awarded an annual compensation of USD 1 million and stock compensation worth around USD 12.5 million.

On Friday, along with Chief Twit, Parag Agarwal, Elon Musk, and Twitter Takeover were trending high on Twitter and other social media platforms.

The hashtag Parag Agarwal surfaced as one of the top trends in India with many users sharing memes and hilarious one-liners on Twitter. Popular memes included scenes from ‘Hera Pheri’, angry Amrish Puri from ‘DDLJ’, and the famous scene from ‘Nayak’ where Anil Kapoor who becomes CM for a day and fires corrupt officials.
The Bird Is Freed
On Friday, Musk created waves on the Internet after his tweet. The Tesla chief in his tweet said, “the bird is freed.” This was a reference to him taking full control of the popular social media company. The tweet has garnered over 600K likes, 107K retweets, and 18K quote tweets since.
Musk’s acquisition brings to an end the prolonged legal dispute between Twitter and the billionaire. Musk had announced his plans to buy the microblogging in April last year. However, Musk had terminated the deal in July after accusing Twitter of violating the purchase agreement by misrepresenting the number of fake bot and spam accounts.
