Serum Institute of India applies for full market authorisation for Covishield

Covishield has been one of the main vaccines used in India for Covid-19. Around 90% people in India have got Covishield. The vaccine was granted Emergency Use Authorisation (EUA) in January last year.

Supplies of Covishield have have exceeded 1.25 billion doses, Poonawalla said.
Pune-based Serum Institute of India (SII) has applied for full market authorisation for Covishield with the drug regulator.

“The government of India now has enough data for full market authorisation, and therefore Serum Institute of India has applied to the drug regulator and the ministry of health for this permission,” Adar Poonawalla, SII’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) tweeted.

He said that supplies of Covishield have have exceeded 1.25 billion doses.
