Amarinder Singh's ministers that locked horns with him

When the ex-Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh planned to put in his papers, many of his inducted ministers jumped ship. Here are the ministers that swapped sides before things went south.

When the ex-Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh planned to put in his papers, many of his inducted ministers jumped ship. Here are the ministers that swapped sides before things went south.

Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa
Bajwa has been a confidante of the ex-Chief Minister, and held a very significant position in his cabinet. A leading figure in Punjab politics, especially from the district of Majha, Bajwa has won from Fatehgarh Churian assembly constituency four times. Bajwa was given the role of rural development and panchayats minister and has held several other portfolios in the past too.


Charanjit Singh Channi
The minister of technical educational & industrial training, he was partly given charge of fulfilling the Congress’s pre-poll pledge of jobs for all. He has had several problems that have been pretty public. In 2017, Charanjit SIngh Channi was accused of sending improper messages to a woman IAS officer. Regardless of everything Channi has been a prominent SC face of the party.

Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria
The revenue, rehabilitation & disaster management and water resources minister in the cabinet, he is popularly known as Sukh Sarkaria. After losing three elections, Sarkaria started gaining public support in 2007. Since then, he has won the Rajasansi assembly constituency thrice in a row. The 64-year old has an extensive career in politics as he has been the chairman of Punjab Energy Development Agency, the Punjab Mandi Board, and Verka block samiti.

Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa
Re-elected in 2017, from Dera Baba Nanak assembly constituency, Randhawa comes from an old Congress family. He was inducted into the cabinet by Amarinder, as he was said to be a loyal lieutenant of the CM. However, recently in Amarinder’s battle against Navjot Singh Sidhu, Randhawa has made his differences with the Captain very clear. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has also spoken in favour of making Batala a new district, in spite of being a cabinet minister.
