The Bagchis will set up the cancer care unit with Karunashraya, a Bengaluru-based hospice, and Shankara Cancer Foundation. Subroto Bagchi is currently the chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority.

Earlier this month, Ashok Soota, another Mindtree co-founder and the founder of IT firm Happiest Minds Ltd., committed Rs 200 crore to launch SKAN, a not-for-profit trust for medical research into ageing and neurological disorders. SKAN will focus on in-house projects and those launched in partnership with the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at Indian Institute Science, Bangalore (IISc).
