Mindtree co-founder Subroto Bagchi, wife Susmita commit Rs 340 crore to a cancer facility in Odisha

With this, Subroto Bagchi joins his industry peers, such as Wipro’s Azim Premji and Infosys’s N.R. Narayana Murthy, and other co-founders of Mindtree in dedicating their wealth towards philanthropy.

Bengaluru: Mindtree Ltd.’s co-founder Subroto Bagchi and his wife Susmita Bagchi have committed Rs 340 crore for a palliative care unit at a cancer hospital in Odisha.

With this, Bagchi joins his industry peers, such as Wipro Ltd.’s Azim Premji and Infosys Ltd.’s N.R. Narayana Murthy, and other co-founders of Mindtree in dedicating their wealth towards philanthropy.

The Bagchis will set up the cancer care unit with Karunashraya, a Bengaluru-based hospice, and Shankara Cancer Foundation. Subroto Bagchi is currently the chairman of Odisha Skill Development Authority.



Previously, Mindtree co-founder Krishnakumar Natarajan and his wife Akila Krishnakumar sold shares worth more than Rs 32 crore in 2018 to fund the initial corpus of a charitable foundation MELA.

Earlier this month, Ashok Soota, another Mindtree co-founder and the founder of IT firm Happiest Minds Ltd., committed Rs 200 crore to launch SKAN, a not-for-profit trust for medical research into ageing and neurological disorders. SKAN will focus on in-house projects and those launched in partnership with the Centre for Brain Research (CBR) at Indian Institute Science, Bangalore (IISc).

He is also involved in philanthropy through Samarthanam, a trust for the disabled, and Ashirvadam, a non-profit involved in education and healthcare for the needy.
