NEW DELHI: After Amazon rainforest, Mumbai's green lung - Aarey forest - is getting a lot of celebrity attention. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Tree Authority last week allowed slashing of 2,700 trees to make a car shed for the metro in the Aarey Colony adjoining suburban Goregaon.

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar joined the list of B-town celebrities protesting this decision on Wednesday. The 89-year old singer took to Twitter to urge the government to save the city's green belt.

Opposing the move, she said that it will invade the natural habitat for many species living in the forest. 'It would be a tragedy', she said.

Soon after Mangeshkar's tweet, dairy company Amul also shared its creative take on the matter.

On Tuesday, former India opener Wasim Jaffer expressed his displeasure over the civic body's nod.
