How Capt. Amarinder Singh managed to make Railways waive off Harmanpreet Kaur's Rs 27L penalty
Fortune favours the brave, or in this case, an excellent player. Harmanpreet Kaur, the star of the Indian women’s cricket team, was caught in a dilemma when the Western Railways (where she was employed as Office Superintendent) asked her to pay up Rs 27 lakh for wanting to switch her job and join the Punjab Police. She was offered a job as a DSP with the Punjab Police, following her stellar performance in England last year.

Having signed a bond for five years with Railways, she was expected to pay the amount for her early exit. Fortunately, Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh took matters in his hands, writing multiple letters to the Railways to waive off the amount. And sure enough, last week, Kaur tweeted that she would be joining the Punjab Police, thanking the CM and Piyush Goel for their help.

Her new employees seem just as happy. “We firmly believe that you would knockdown the criminals in your new innings as a DSP, just the way you have been knocking sixes in the world of cricket,” the department’s handle replied.
