Market now: Nifty Pharma index up; Lupin, Divi's Lab top gainers

NEW DELHI: Gains in Lupin (up 2.36 per cent), Divi's Laboratories (up 1.36 per cent), Aurobindo Pharma (up 0.91 per cent), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (up 0.69 per cent) and Cipla (up 0.50 per cent) were keeping the Nifty Pharma index in the positive zone in Tuesday's trade.

The Nifty Pharma index was 0.46 per cent up at 9,550, while benchmark Nifty was 0.30 per cent up at 10,019 and Sensex was 0.33 per cent up at 31,952 around 11.40 am (IST).

Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (down 0.37 per cent), GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals (down 0.34 per cent) and Piramal Enterprises (down 0.08 per cent) were the three losers in the Nifty Pharma index around that time.

Besides pharma, IT stocks were also gaining in trade.

Overall market sentiments were positive. Uninterrupted buying by domestic financial institutions and widening of exposure by retail investors ahead of second quarter earnings season amid a firming trend in the Asian region steered the show, PTI reported.

Shares of MindTree (up 1.96 per cent), Infosys (up 1.27 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services (up 0.30 per cent), Infibeam Incorporation (up 0.28 per cent), Tech Mahindra (up 0.26 per cent) and Tata Elxsi (up 0.15 per cent) were trading as the top gainers in the IT index.

On the NSE, 1098 stocks were advancing, compared with 516 stocks declining and 356 stocks remaining unchanged.
