The world's wealthiest woman and heiress Liliane Bettencourt died at her Paris home last week. While her 64-year-old daughter will now take her place, here's a look at other women billionaires.

As the only child of Liliane Bettencourt, Françoise Bettencourt-Meyers has not only inherited the vast L'Oreal fortune, but also her mother's position as the wealthiest woman in the world.

The 64-year-old is known for playing the piano for several hours a day. She has also written two books - a five-volume study of the Bible and a genealogy of the Greek gods. She lives mainly within the confines of her own family, and stays away from the spotlight.

The Wal - Mart heiress briefly held the title of the richest woman last week. The only daughter of WalMart founder Sam and Helen Walton, Walton, 67, is not involved in the running of the mega store.

Susanne Klatten
Current net worth: $22.5 billion




Susanne Klatten is Germany's richest woman. The daughter of Herbert and Johanna Quandt, she inherited 50 per cent of chemical company Altana AG when her pa rent s died, while she and her brother own almost 50 per cent of BMW.

In 2009, Klattten was conned out of more than £6.2 million by a smooth talking conman, Helg Sgarbi. He reportedly targeted Klatten as revenge for her father running slave labour factories that supplied batteries, chemicals and other materials for Hitler's forces. He told the police that his Jewish grandfather had been forced to work in one of those factories.

Laurene Powell Jobs
Current net worth: $17.6 billion




The wife of the late Steve Jobs, Powell Jobs has taken his legacy further. The 53-year-old started the Emerson Collective, which pushes causes on social reform and environmental issues. She also co-founded College Track, which helps disadvantaged students get their further education.

The Munich-based company's brands include BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce. She also has stakes in chemical company Altana, carbon producer SGL Carbon, credit card maker Entrust Datacard and turbine developer Nordex.
