NEW DELHI: Delhi's National Museum of Natural History was completely destroyed on Tuesday after a massive fire broke out at the FICCI building that it's housed in. Here is all you want to know about the iconic museum.

1. The National Museum of Natural History (NMNH) in New Delhi was established in 1972, as part of the celebration of 25 years of India's independence.

2. It functioned under the Ministry of Environment and Forests that rented space for the museum in the FICCI building in Central Delhi.

3. NMNH focused on India's flora and fauna and was also an institution committed to environmental education.

4. This museum had a large collection of stuffed animals and birds.

5. From being a single museum located in New Delhi, NMNH extended its geographical range by establishing Regional Museums of Natural History in Mysore, Bhopal and Bhubaneswar. Two more museums are being established in Sawai Madhopur and in Gangtok.
