KOLKATA: India is emerging as an important source of foreign direct investment in the United States, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, US Department of State, Evan A Feigenbaum said.

Speaking at an interactive session organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce here today, Feigenbaum said that US had awaken to the reality that India was becoming an economic powerhouse in the south Asian region.

He said that Indian investments in the US were rising. The US official said industry body, FICCI, would shortly lead a delegation to the US to shop investments.

Commenting that there was a drastic change in Indo-US foreign policy of late, Feigenbaum said India was now able to deal with global challenges.

"India had generated a lot of interest in the US," he said, adding that bilateral relations between the two nations were assuming great importance.
