The UK has contributed Rs 2.9 crore ($712,903), USA Rs 6.6 crore ($1,600,000), the Middle East Rs 1.7 crore ($460,000), Australia Rs 60 lakh ($135,273) and the rest of the world Rs 1.55 crore ($380,000).
The film suffered a slight setback with the spat between distributors, exhibitors and producers on the revenue-share deals, impacting box-office collections, and moreover with the film being banned in Rajasthan due to political reasons. We have witnessed very little drop from Monday onwards, and this weekend we expect collections to be as good as the opening weekend, said UTV CEO and producer Ronnie Screwvala.
In India, the film released with 500 prints and on 400 digital screens. While Welcome grossed Rs 39 crore in India in the first five days, Jodha Akbar could manage only around Rs 25 crore. On the other hand, Aamir Khans Taare Zameen Par released with 385 prints and only managed Rs 11 crore in the first three days. But collections shot up in the following weeks.
UTV also plans to release the film in the southern circuits of India to up box-office collections significantly.
The success of the movie now lies on it sustaining itself over this weekend, said a trade analyst. If it does not, the film will be slotted as an above average film in terms of box-office collections, at least in the domestic market.
