India Inc heads for Rahul Gandhi's home with budget pleas
12 Tughlaq Lane, home to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, is flooded with appointment requests from the who’s who of India Inc for giving their Budget-related suggestions.
According to sources, Mukesh Ambani and Emaar MGF vice-chairman Shravan Gupta have already got an opportunity to air their concerns. Some other corporates, knowing very well that there is no guarantee of an appointment with Mr Gandhi, have started shooting their suggestions through mails.
Requests by corporates seeking an appointment with Mr Gandhi started pouring in since the day the UPA government announced plans to extend National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) to all over the country, a senior Congress functionary told ET. Extending NREGS was the first major issue raised by the Nehru-Gandhi scion after being inducted as a general secretary in the AICC.
However, sources close to Mr Gandhi say that at this point of time, he is not very keen on pursuing demands of corporates and is instead focusing on issues related to students and youth.
In his current role in the party , Mr Gandhi is responsible for the functioning of Congress youth (IYC) and students (NSUI) wings.
Still others are approaching NSUI and IYC functionaries, as a medium to get noticed by Mr Gandhi. Says NSUI National spokesperson Kuntal Krishna: We have received proposals from various companies, who want to share a platform with us and hold pre-Budget discussions. Some have also come up with possible areas of co-operation , where corporates can play a more constructive role in making youth at grassroots employable with an active participation of NSUI. From our side also, we have given related suggestions to Mr Gandhi.
