DRL, Novartis smoke peace pipe on Alzheimer's drug
Dr Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) has entered a settlement agreement with Novartis Pharma to suspend the launch of its generic capsule rivastigmine tartrate till 2014.
The rivastigmine tartrate capsule is the generic version of Novartis product, Exelon, indicated for the treatment of mild-to-moderate Alzheimer’s disease dementia. It goes off-patent in 2014. The exact date of launch and other terms of this agreement are confidential.
In 2006, DRL had moved a US court challenging the Novartis patent on Alzheimer’s drug rivastigmine tartrate. It’s in October 2007 that DRL received the final approval from the US FDA on its ANDA for rivastigmine capsules. DRL has now suspended the launch of the generic capsule.
