ByCells cries foul after being left out by DoT
ByCell Telecommunications cries foul over not being issued a Letter of Intent by the Department of Telecom.
Despite being at the first spot under DoT's first-come- first-serve policy, the government has not issued any LoI pending security clearance, ByCell said in a statement.
ByCell had applied for five circles -- Assam, Orissa, Bihar, North East and West Bengal -- in January 2006.
DoT today issued LoIs to nine companies and also cleared the allotment of additional spectrum to existing GSM players and Reliance Communications for crossover technology.
The company said it had received FIPB approval for investments in five circles in January 2006 but neither FIPB nor Department of Telecom or any other governmental authorities said that it needs further security clearance.
ByCell said the DoT's action may be due to certain false complaints filed in the name of a Member of Parliament, related to the security issue filed with the PMO in October last year. Later, the MP had said that the document was forged and he had no complaints against ByCell.
The complaint may have instigated by certain competitors, the company said, adding the action has been taken on a complaint without fully investigating the issue.
