'India commodities trade with Yiwu to grow by 50pc every year'

The commodity trade between India and Yiwu, the world's largest small commodities market situated in China, is expected to surge by over 50 per cent every year.

NEW DELHI: The commodity trade between India and Yiwu, the world's largest small commodities market situated in China, is expected to surge by over 50 per cent every year.

"In 2006, the trade volume between Yiwu and India reached USD 26.18 million, ranking the fourth among all the Asian countries, and hopefully it will grow by over 50 per cent every year," China Yiwu International Commodities Fair (CYCIF) Director General Chen Xiuxian said.

"We have also plans to set up branches in India so as to strengthen Sino-Indian trade and economic cooperation," Xiuxian said.

The Yiwu is one of the important commercial and exhibition cities of China. We have plans to set up branches in India to strengthen the economic relations between the countries. We are also planning to organise similar types of fair in India, China Yiwu International Commodities Fair (CYCIF) Director General Chen Xiuxian said.

On Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's upcoming visit to China, Xiuxian said the visit would be successful and give a filip to the trade and economic relations between the two giants.

CYCIF is one of the favourite fair amongst Indian businessmen, whose participation is increasing by every year since its inception in 1995, she said. "We are expecting large number of Indian participants in the forthcoming fair, which is going to commence from October 22, has huge potential for Indian businessmen," Xiuxian said.

She said that, Indian participants could exhibit their products as well as sell their products in Yiwu and can import any commodities and export to other countries. The Chinese government would help in every manner to make the transactions smooth.
