LONDON: Tata Motors was on Thursday named the preferred bidder for Ford's British marquees Jaguar and Land Rover, but a final decision for the sale was yet to be taken.

"Ford is committed to focused negotiations at a more detailed level with Tata Motors concerning the potential sale of the combined Jaguar, Land Rover business," Premier Automotive Group and Ford of Europe, Ford Motor Company Executive Vice-President Lewis Booth said.

He said detailed discussions would be held with Tata Motors over the coming weeks. Both, however, added no final decision on the sale has been taken yet as there were issues to be addressed.

"There is still a considerable amount of work to do, and while no final decision has been made, we will proceed with further substantive discussions with Tata Motors over the forthcoming weeks with a view to securing an agreement that is in the best interests of all parties concerned," he added.
