Heavy rains continued in many states of north India on Friday throwing life out of gear even as flood-related deaths mounted to 107 in Uttar Pradesh.

NEW DELHI: Heavy rains continued in many states of north India on Friday throwing life out of gear even as flood-related deaths mounted to 107 in Uttar Pradesh, where the army was called out in two districts to evacuate marooned people to safer places.

One death each was reported from Derioa and Gorakhpur districts due to wall collapses, taking the toll in such incidents to 54. Fifty-three people have been killed in boat tragedies due to swollen rivers in Uttar Pradesh.

The army was called out in Barabanki and Gorakhpur, while PAC personnel have been pressed into service other affected areas with over 2,200 villages being hit and nearly 1,100 villages marooned in 20 districts, mostly in the eastern region. Major rivers Ghaghra, Saryu, Rapti, Kuano and Manorama were showing a rising trend and had crossed danger marks at various places.
