New Indians at senior positions in Microsoft, Oracle and new start-ups

From the lone wolves scattered here and there in the 60s, to the Vinod Dhams & Vinod Khoslas of the 70s to the Nikesh Aroras & Sundar Pichais of today, the India Story in Silicon Valley has come a long way. Concerns mount over US Congress' new immigration bill but the fact that Indian Americans account for a quarter of all new companies in California says something else.

Here we take a look at a fresher lot occupying senior positions in firms ranging from Microsoft to Oracle to new start-ups.

Satya Nadella PRESIDENT (Server & Tools Business), MICROSOFT

Nadella heads a $19-billion division of the tech giant that is bigger than many global corporations. The Hyderabad native completed his BTech in computer engineering from Mangalore University, and earned name as VP (R&D) of Microsoft.

Abhijit Talwalkar PRESIDENT & CEO, LSI

Since taking over as its president and CEO in 2005, Talwalkar has transformed LSI , which designs semiconductors and software that accelerate storage and networking in datacentres , mobile networks and client computing.

Chirantan Desai EXEC VP, SYMANTEC

Oversees the security software giant's product strategy & development. Earlier , he headed the product management division of Pivotal , and ran its India centre for a while.

Thomas Kurian EXEC VP (PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT), ORACLE
