AGARTALA: With insurgency on the wane in Tripura, several business groups have started evincing interest about investing in the state, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said on Wednesday.
"Insurgent activities have declined and infrastructure is being developed as a result of which a conducive atomsphere is being created to attract investment", he told reporters.
The government, he said, has recently formed a high power four member committee headed by chief secretary R K Mathur to attract investment and look into the problems of investors.
The chief minister said: "We welcome investors in the state but we will approve their proposals only after proper examination".
"Law and order has improved substantially but the insurgents have not been rooted out completely", he said, adding that "We are alert so that they cannot raise their ugly heads".
Sarkar said due to proximity and long porus border with Bangladesh, the ultras have set up base camps in Bangladesh and they often cross the border to enter the state to launch subversive activities.
Chairman of Universal Empire, an NRI business group, K Balachandran Nair yesterday announced that the group was keen on investing in tourism and education sectors in the state.
The group chairman also announced that new private airlines connecting the air fields in the north-east would be launched in October for which they had obtained approval from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board of India.
