Premji, Kumar Birla find place on RBI board

Wipro chairman Azim Premji, Aditya Birla group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and Ambuja Cement chairman Suresh Kumar Neotia feature in the new-look central board of directors of the Reserve Bank of India.

MUMBAI: Wipro chairman Azim Premji, Aditya Birla group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and Ambuja Cement chairman Suresh Kumar Neotia feature in the new-look central board of directors of the Reserve Bank of India.

Prior to the reconstitution of the board by the government on Wednesday, Infosys chairman NR Narayana Murthy was one of the members. Indian industry will be represented also by D Jayavarthanavelu, chairman of the Coimbatore-based Laxmi Machine Works.

The other nominees to the new central board are UR Rao, former chairman of Isro, former civil servant Lakshmi Chand, noted economist and a member of the prime minister’s economic advisory council, Suresh Tendulkar, former member of the Planning Commission and professor at the Madras Institute of Development Studies, A Vaidyanathan, ManMohan Sharma, former director of the Mumbai University of Chemical Technology and Rekha Rajagoplan, consultant- co-operatives.

Among those who have been renominated are YH Malegam, chartered accountant, HP Ranina, Supreme Court advocate and Ashok Ganguly, member, Knowledge Commission and Investment Commission.

The new members will serve on the board for four years. Members of the previous board included Ratan Tata, Prof Mihir Rakshit, NR Narayana Murthy and K Madhava Rao, Prof VS Vyas, KP Singh, Amrita Patel and Suresh Krishna.
