Raipur: A Raipur-bound IndiGo flight from Delhi carrying Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, former chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, state Congress president Deepak Baij and several other political leaders was diverted to Nagpur on Thursday night due to adverse weather conditions in the state capital, officials said.

The flight, IndiGo 6E-5138, was scheduled to land at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur at around 9 pm. However, it was diverted to Nagpur after inclement weather, including strong winds and rain, affected flight operations in Raipur, a staff member at the office of Deputy Chief Minister Sao said.

The flight landed safely at Nagpur and later took off from there at around 10:40 pm. The aircraft is expected to arrive in Raipur shortly after 11:15 pm, he said.

A Congress functionary said that Baghel and Baij were among the passengers on board the flight. Several other BJP and Congress leaders were also travelling on the aircraft, he said.

Raipur witnessed a sudden change in weather on Thursday evening after a day of intense heat, with strong winds, thunderstorms and rain affecting air services in the city.
