Neighbours and world leaders hail PM Modi's milestone

NEW DELHI: World leaders congratulated Narendra Modi for becoming the longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister of India, with a series of messages pouring from the region, overseas partners and neighboring nations.

Congratulatory messages were received from global leaders from the European Union, neighbourhood nations like Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka, besides partners in Africa. Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay described Modi as a friend, brother and mentor and said that he draws inspiration from him on how to serve as a public servant.

President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake also extended warm congratulations and noted Sri Lanka's commitment to further strengthening the enduring ties between the two countries. The High Commission of Sri Lanka in India also conveyed President Dissanayake's message reaffirming the close and enduring partnership between India and Sri Lanka. "Sri Lanka values our close partnership and looks forward to further strengthening the enduring ties between our two nations," it posted on social media.

Prime Minister Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim extended his congratulations on the milestone and described it as a testament to Modi's years of dedicated public service and leadership. He reaffirmed Malaysia's commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding opportunities for the people of both countries.

President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen in her message said that under Modi's leadership India has not just landed on the moon but is also shooting for the stars. "And so is our EU-India friendship. From our cooperation on technology, mobility, security and defence all the way to the mother of all trade deals. Thank you for all that we have achieved together," she posted.

President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu noted the trust and confidence reposed in Modi's leadership by the people of India across three consecutive mandates. "This remarkable achievement reflects the enduring confidence and trust the people of India have reposed in his leadership," he posted.

President of the Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu expressed his country's desire to further strengthen cooperation with India based on mutual respect, sovereign equality and shared interests.

Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto described the milestone as a reflection of the trust and confidence placed in his leadership by the people of India. He also expressed Kenya's commitment to deepening cooperation with India for the mutual benefit of both nations.

From South Korea, PM Modi got a special message from President Lee Jae-myung for his role in India's development and progress and expressed confidence in further advancing the Korea-India Special Strategic Partnership.

Prime Minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni congratulated the PM and recalled their recent meeting in Rome and expressed her commitment to advancing the Special Strategic Partnership between India and Italy for the benefit of both nations and their peoples.
