Kolkata: Trinamool Congress on Monday expelled MLAs Ritabarata Bandopadhyay and Sandipan Saha from the party citing anti-party activities, amid controversy over alleged forgery of signatures in the letter endorsing the party's nominees for leader of Opposition and chief whip in the West Bengal assembly.

Trinamool announced the expulsion of the two MLAs minutes after chief minister Suvendu Adhikari said they had complained that signatures of party MLAs were forged to show support for its nominees.

Former CM Mamata Banerjee, in an online address, said: "We have expelled the MLAs today. There are MLAs who are in contact with BJP."

The state CID is probing the alleged signature forgery after Bandopadhyay and Saha complained to the assembly Speaker that no resolution was adopted by party MLAs on the LoP selection. Adhikari said strict action would be taken against those who have forged signatures.

CID has interrogated 13 Trinamool MLAs and three of them - Baharul Islam, Arup Roy and Subhasish Das - have confessed to the CID on camera that they did not sign the resolution, the CM said.
