‘Pocket being quietly fleeced’: Rahul Gandhi targets govt over petrol-diesel prices
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over rising fuel prices, accusing the government of burdening citizens with repeated petrol and diesel hikes after elections.

In a strongly worded statement shared on social media, Gandhi dubbed the Prime Minister “Inflation Man Modi,” alleging that the Centre raises fuel prices in phases to avoid immediate public backlash while steadily increasing the financial strain on households.

“They raise petrol-diesel prices in installments—so that your pocket keeps getting quietly fleeced,” Gandhi said. He further claimed that he had been warning about an “economic storm” for months, accusing the government of prioritising electoral politics over inflation concerns.

“Modi ji, as always, was busy with elections back then—and the moment elections ended, petrol-diesel was hiked by ₹8. And this rise will just keep happening,” Gandhi said.

The Congress MP also alleged that the government’s economic strategy revolves around making promises during election campaigns while imposing higher costs on citizens afterward. “Inflation Man Modi's only job is this—promises during elections, and the rest of the time, attacks on the public's pocket,” he added.
