The massive success of Drishyam later inspired remakes in several languages. The Hindi adaptation starring Ajay Devgn became hugely popular, while Tamil, Telugu and Kannada versions also received strong responses from audiences.

Drishyam 2 raised the tension even further

After several years, Jeethu Joseph returned with Drishyam 2 in 2021. The sequel showed Georgekutty and his family trying to live a normal life, but the trauma of the past continued to haunt them. The police reopen the investigation after new evidence and eyewitness accounts create fresh suspicion. Authorities begin closely monitoring Georgekutty and his family. At one point, the investigation appears to finally crack the case when skeletal remains are recovered and Georgekutty himself signs a confession to save his loved ones.

However, the film delivers another major twist during the forensic investigation. DNA tests reveal that the bones found by the police do not belong to the victim, causing the entire case to collapse inside the courtroom.

Later, viewers discover that Georgekutty had secretly anticipated this possibility years earlier. He had carefully swapped the skeleton at the forensic lab and even prepared a backup plan through a crime novel that described a murder using a similar method. His legal team then argued that the police had built the case based on the fictional story from the novel.
