Amid growing outrage over the NEET paper leak controversy, Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday announced major changes to the NEET examination system, stating that the medical entrance exam will be held in a computer-based format from next year. “From next year, NEET exam will be computer-based as they are better than OMR-based tests,” the Union Education Minister said.

2. The minister said the NTA will refund exam fees to affected candidates, and no extra charges will be taken for the re-exam.


3. Candidates will get an extra 15 minutes.

4. Admit cards for the NEET re-exam will be released on June 14.

5. NEET-UG 2026 exam will begin at 2 pm and conclude at 5:15 pm.

What was the NEET controversy?

The controversy surrounding NEET-UG 2026 intensified after the National Testing Agency, with approval from the Centre, cancelled the medical entrance exam held on May 3 and announced that the test would be conducted again on revised dates.

Paper Leak And Irregularity Allegations

The decision came amid growing allegations of a paper leak, irregularities in the examination process, and concerns raised by investigative agencies regarding the credibility and fairness of the exam system.

The accused were arrested from Rajasthan, Haryana and Maharashtra, pointing to what investigators believe may be a multi-state network involved in procuring and circulating examination material.

According to ET Bureau report, the agency conducted searches at multiple locations and seized electronic devices and documents suspected to be linked to the leak.
