Devendra Fadnavis, Shivraj Singh Chouhan support PM Modi’s appeal for economic caution
New Delhi: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis and Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday defended PM Narendra Modi's appeal for austerity measures amid the West Asia crisis, while launching sharp attacks on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for criticising the call. Fadnavis said Gandhi's criticism reflected his "limited understanding" of the issue.

Chouhan said Modi's suggestions were "in larger national and public interest". "We do not have unlimited oil reserves that can be used without concern. A visionary leader thinks ahead to ensure that neither the nation nor its people face hardship," Chouhan said.

Drawing parallels with the Covid-19 period, Chouhan said India had successfully overcome crises because of Modi's foresight and leadership.

BJP has sought to project Modi's appeal as a precautionary economic strategy aimed at insulating India from global supply disruptions, rising crude oil prices and inflationary pressures.
