LSG's Sanjiv Goenka
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka is once again making waves online. This time, he was seen offering thanks to the gods after LSG’s bowlers ripped through the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting line-up in a dominant display during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash on Sunday.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, LSG’s bowling unit delivered instantly. Led by a clinical spell from Mohammed Shami (2/9 in 4 overs), they dismantled SRH’s top order in a fiery opening burst. Captain Rishabh Pant’s decision paid off right away, as Shami struck in the very first over, dismissing the dangerous Abhishek Sharma for a two-ball duck.

The collapse deepened as Travis Head (7) departed soon after, followed by stand-in captain Ishan Kishan (1), who was cleaned up by a brilliant delivery from Prince Yadav (2/34 in 4 overs). By the end of the Powerplay, SRH were struggling at 22/3, which quickly turned into 26/4 when Liam Livingstone (14) was brilliantly caught by a diving Pant off the bowling of Digvesh Rathi (1/46 in 4 overs).

With SRH’s aggressive “all-out attack” approach backfiring, the responsibility of rebuilding fell on local talent Nitish Kumar Reddy and South African power-hitter Heinrich Klaasen. The pair stitched together a crucial 116-run partnership, dragging SRH from the brink of collapse to a respectable total.

However, just when SRH looked poised for a late flourish, LSG struck back. Manimaran Siddharth (1/29 in 4 overs) broke the stand by dismissing Reddy, shifting the momentum once again. Klaasen fell soon after, and the lower order struggled against disciplined death bowling from Avesh Khan (2/36 in 4 overs) and Prince Yadav, as the Hyderabad-based side eventually posted 156/9.

Internet reacts

Watching from the stands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Goenka couldn’t hide his excitement. He was seen cheering passionately and even pulling out a picture of his deity to seek blessings moments after Kishan’s dismissal.

His reaction quickly went viral, sparking humorous responses online. One user wrote, “Goenka sir, please pray for Khaleel and Henry too,” while another joked, “SRH at 10/3… and Sanjiv Goenka can’t believe it.”

This isn’t the first time Sanjiv Goenka has gone viral during the Indian Premier League. Just last week, his animated exchange with LSG captain Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer grabbed attention online, prompting the franchise to release a full video for clarification.

A similar moment had stirred controversy in the 2024 season, when Goenka was seen in a public discussion with then-captain KL Rahul following a defeat—an incident that drew considerable criticism at the time.
