Industrialist Anand Mahindra in his latest post on X has turned the spotlight on Jharkhand, often missing from India's travel lists and also urged travellers to look beyond popular destinations like Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. Anand Mahindra spotlighted untouched landscapes dense forests about Meghahatuburu, a hill station in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, popularly known as the "Hill of Clouds" due to its high altitude.

Anand Mahindra said he too had ignored Jharkhand—until he came across stunning visuals of Meghahatuburu shared by India Aesthetica. But now his perception has changed.

Mahindra noted that the area currently has minimal tourist infrastructure, with only a handful of resorts and mostly basic guesthouses and this makes it ideal for travellers seeking offbeat and less crowded locations.

"And then I bumped into these striking photos posted by @IndiaAesthetica about Meghahatuburu, a hill station in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, renowned as the "Hill of Clouds" due to its high altitude. Sitting 4,300 feet above sea level in the heart of the Saranda forest of 700 hills, it offers a sunset point, forest waterfalls, and a landscape that has remained largely untouched. Bare-bones tourist infrastructure. Very few resorts, many guesthouses," Anand Mahindra's post read.

About Meghahatuburu in Jharkhand

Known as the “Hill of Clouds,” Meghahatuburu is located in West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand at an altitude of around 4,300 feet, deep inside the lush Saranda Forest. Spread across 700 hills, the region offers breathtaking sunset points, forest waterfalls and raw, untouched natural beauty.

According to Jharkhand Tourism, Meghahatuburu is a scenic hill station known for its breathtaking landscapes and peaceful environment. Often referred to as the “Land of Seven Hundred Hills,” it offers a mesmerizing panoramic view of the Saranda forest—the largest sal forest in Asia. The region is rich in iron ore deposits, making it home to SAIL’s Meghahatuburu Iron Ore Mines.

"This lesser-explored paradise is a hidden gem for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and photographers. Whether it’s the spectacular sunrise at the sunset point, the lush greenery, or the rich tribal culture, Meghahatuburu is a must-visit destination," it said.

Other options to explore in Jharkhand

Digging deeper, Anand Mahindra highlighted several other attractions across Jharkhand. He pointed out that Jharkhand is home to several underrated attractions, including the iconic sunrise views of Netarhat, wildlife at Betla National Park, the sacred Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar, and stunning waterfalls around Ranchi.

Despite its rich offerings, Mahindra pointed out that Jharkhand continues to fly under the radar. “Jharkhand has much to offer the discerning traveller. It simply hasn’t shouted about it,” he remarked, calling for greater attention to the state’s tourism potential.

"I did some more checking about Jharkhand and found it has Netarhat’s famous sunrises, Betla National Park, the sacred Jyotirlinga at Deoghar, the waterfalls around Ranchi, and the ancient Saranda forest itself. Somehow, it still gets overlooked. Jharkhand has much to offer the discerning traveller. It simply hasn’t shouted about it," he said.
