Reacting to criticism faced by Bittu Tabahi, who was accused of cleaning parts of a river merely for online views, Anand Mahindra offered a different perspective. "This young man from Biaora, M.P, was criticised for claiming to have cleaned parts of a river just in order to gain social media views. Well, we usually complain that social media rewards the trivial rather than the meaningful. So If a desire for ‘likes’ can become a force for good that’s fine with me… Bittu Tabahi from Biaora is my #MondayMotivation," Anand Mahindra wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Why is Anand Mahindra impressed with Bittu Tabahi?

In the heart of Madhya Pradesh, Bittu Tabahi, a 20-year-old from Biaora, has emerged as a symbol of individual responsibility after taking on the daunting task of cleaning the heavily polluted Ajnar River—almost entirely on his own. What began as frustration over years of neglect has now evolved into one of the most talked-about environmental movements in Madhya Pradesh and across India.

Once reduced to a toxic stretch, the Ajnar River in Biaora had become an environmental crisis zone—choked with plastic waste, garbage, and dense layers of green algae that rendered parts of it “biologically dead.” Refusing to remain a silent spectator, Bittu launched his clean-up mission around January 26, 2026, coinciding with Republic Day. While he initially received support from a few friends, his relentless effort has largely been a solo battle against pollution.

Equipped with nothing but gloves, basic tools, and trash bags—often purchased from his own pocket—Bittu has been stepping into polluted waters daily, driven by sheer determination. His Instagram handle, @bittu_tabahi, has become a viral showcase of transformation, featuring striking before-and-after visuals that highlight the revival of the Ajnar River—from a debris-filled, algae-covered stream to clearer waters reflecting the sky and surrounding greenery.

Despite widespread skepticism, including locals who doubted his ability to make any real impact, Bittu turned criticism into motivation. By focusing on key areas like the main river ghat, he has demonstrated that consistent effort can drive visible change. In one viral video, he calmly urges people to stop dumping waste back into the river—proving that awareness and action must go hand in hand.

By mid-March 2026, the results are undeniable. Several stretches of the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh now show remarkable improvement, with reduced algae, cleaner banks, and restored water clarity. Bittu intentionally leaves collected waste along the riverbanks as a stark visual reminder of years of environmental neglect—not just in MP, but across India.

His journey has struck a chord nationwide, amassing millions of views and widespread praise. Social media users have hailed him as a real-life hero, while also raising critical questions: how is a single 20-year-old from Madhya Pradesh achieving what municipal systems—backed by resources and infrastructure—have failed to deliver?
