Tamil cinema legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are set to reunite on screen after nearly four decades for an upcoming film directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The much-awaited project will also feature music by Anirudh Ravichander. Amid growing excitement around their reunion, actress Shruti Haasan recently spoke about the two superstars’ work ethic and highlighted the qualities they share in common.

What are 3 common things between Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan?

In an interview with Mashable India, Shruti Haasan opened up about what she believes makes both actors stand out even after decades in the industry. She said that the biggest similarity between her father and Rajinikanth is their relentless dedication to their craft. According to her, both actors are extremely hardworking and remain deeply committed to their work regardless of their stature or experience.

Shruti further explained that despite their packed schedules and demanding careers, neither of them makes a show of their workload. Paraphrasing her remarks, she noted that both stars quietly put in immense effort without complaining or drawing attention to how busy they are. She added that they continue to manage their professional commitments, personal lives, offices and relationships smoothly, while still maintaining a powerful work ethic. Describing their approach, Shruti said they work with the intensity of “beasts,” yet carry out their responsibilities calmly and without unnecessary drama.

More about their reunion

The reunion film marks a huge moment for Tamil cinema, as Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan have not appeared together in a full-fledged role for decades. The two icons have previously shared screen space in several films, including Apoorva Raagangal, Pathinaru Vayathinile and Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu. Their last full-length collaboration came with Ninaithale Inikkum, a film directed by K. Balachander, who played a crucial role in shaping both their early careers.

The film also featured actors like Srividya, Sundarrajan, Nagesh and Jayasudha. Over the years, the two stars appeared together in several projects, but their last full-length collaboration was the 1979 film Ninaithale Inikkum. They were later seen on screen in Balachander’s 1981 film Thillu Mullu, where Kamal Haasan made a brief cameo appearance.

There had been multiple attempts in recent years to bring the two icons back together for a film. Initially, director Sundar C was attached to a project produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International, and later Cibi Chakaravarthi was reported to take over. However, after weeks of speculation, it was finally confirmed that Nelson Dilipkumar would helm the much-awaited reunion film. A promo announcing the project was released to mark the collaboration, adding to fan excitement. Rajinikanth is also currently working with Nelson on Jailer 2, which is expected to release later this year. The involvement of Anirudh Ravichander as the film’s composer has further raised anticipation. Stay tuned!
