Less shout-outs about hidden paradises?

Influencers are popular because they are influential. Or, at least, perceived to be influential until proven otherwise. But especially influential are those influencers who are influential beyond their Instagrams et al. Like Anand Mahindra. The 'We Also Make Vehicles' bizwig with an X-factor recently shared a post in which he wowed about the incredible settings at Duduma Falls near the Odisha-Andhra border. That's great - sharing that there is a tucked-away paradise, far from the madding selfie stick-wielding crowds. But you do see the paradox, right? By pointing out the area around a stunning waterfall to thousands, Mahindra may have removed the very thing that protects Duduma Falls from the throngs: ignorance about its existence.

For centuries, Reichenbach Falls was a relatively secluded, beautiful waterfall in Alpine Switzerland. Then, in 1893, Victorian super-influencer Arthur Conan Doyle mucked it up by making Reichenbach the climactic location in his Sherlock Holmes short story, 'The Final Problem'. Ever since, what do you think happened to that blessed spot on Earth? Perhaps overrun by Holmes tourists? No shit, Sherlock. Duduma, one fervently prays, won't be now visited by some great neta responding to Mahindra's well-intentioned reco. Or, worse, be the site where the climactic scene of the next Dhurandhar - god forbid! - is shot.
