Lok Sabha Speaker holds all-party meeting, consensus reached to revoke suspension of eight opposition MPs
In a reset of tempers during the ongoing Budget session, the Lok Sabha on Tuesday revoked, with immediate effect, the suspension of eight opposition MPs who had been barred from the House earlier this month for "unruly" behaviour.

The move came after senior Congress leader K. Suresh urged the House to reconsider the decision, prompting discussions across party lines on restoring normal functioning.

Responding to the appeal, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stressed the need to draw a 'Laxman Rekha' to ensure smooth proceedings — a sentiment that found agreement on both treasury and opposition benches.

Speaker Om Birla underlined the importance of maintaining decorum inside Parliament, stating that no placards, posters, photographs or AI-generated images should be displayed within the House or the Parliament complex.

Rijiju subsequently moved a motion to revoke the suspension of the eight MPs — seven from the Congress and one from the CPI(M) — which was adopted by a voice vote.

Those reinstated include Congress MPs Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Hibi Eden, C. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Manickam Tagore, Prashant Padole and Dean Kuriakose, along with CPI(M) member S. Venkatesan.

The MPs had been suspended on February 3 following a resolution passed in the first half of the Budget session, with the penalty initially set to run for the remainder of the session, scheduled to conclude on April 2.

Tuesday’s decision effectively brings them back into the House mid-session, signalling a tentative thaw in the political standoff — even as both sides acknowledge the need to adhere to the newly drawn "Laxman Rekha" to keep disruptions in check.
